Hello Everyone,

Found this item along with many 1700 and 1800's coins and buttons. Looks like some of the Belt plates I've seen identified on this site, but I haven't seen a reverse side like this. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I'll get you started until someone who knows what they are talking about comes along. You have a plate, but I believe it is a plate that went across the middle, where two belts crossed. Your time period seems about right.

002.JPGI am not sure either with the hooks and size. But my first guess would be a Virginia, plain brass, shoulderbelt plate.very nice find.exspeacialy if that is what it is.

Was it found in jersey?

Could be as early as the Revolution. I've had some from that period. The plates were made to go through the leather, but to do be attached permanently, like yours.

I don't believe it is a belt plate as it is to small. It looks to be be a bridal or horse tack piece.

Yes, I concur as well with horse tack, this being a decorative brass piece, likely Colonial American period, that was originally attached to leather. :icon_thumright:
