Something does look a little different about the bust side... but with the 73 on top and that size - being a little smaller than the typical Britannia halfpenny - it would seem it would have to be the Virginia halfpenny.

Maybe someone with more experience will give their thoughts.

Great find!

I dug a very nice-condition Virginia Halfpenny, at Fredericksburg VA ...but it's now in a bank safe-deposit box, so I cannot compare it with your coin.

However, you can easily compare the fine-details description and enlarge the photos at the following website, to see if your coin is indeed a Virginia Halfpenny, or not. The Virginia Halfpenny

How about a Hibernia halfpenny,it's hard to see your pics. But to me it makes the most sense.

If you get a chance maybe could you add another set of photos? Different lighting and /or more zoomed in etc. might show some more details. :)

Thank you! I still have a lot to learn - IP & Don are the experts I was talking about too. :)

And here's one now! Date must be on the bottom then. Can you see it there Button King?

My only expertise I think is in coffee drinking.

Don't have to see the date, don't have to see the other pic at all. :)
