I have tons of coin i get at coins stores in the 10 cent bins that are worn down beyond recognition, they are definetly really old at least 1800's. My question is, is there some way to raise the details on copper, silver, braass, bronze and other coins? I know its possible with nickels using nic-a-date or Ferric chloride, but i dont think that stuff works on other metals...

Check with the auto theft guys or the lab at the PD and find out what they use to raise ground off serial numbers on cars or guns. They apply some chemical and no matter how deep it's ground off, it will reappear. It may be too distructive on coins though but I'm not sure. I have just seen them do it a couple of times. Monty

What Monty is Talking about Should Definately work on Brass, Although I Don't know what it is they use.

? The ONLY thing that has ever worked for me on copper, Are Spray Lubricants, Like Liquid Wrench
and a Tooth Brush, Along with Several Applications over a Long period of time.

along with allowing for re-toning by air over a period of time.

Some it took 2 years.

I think Monty is referring to a technique known as "magnafluxing", and it does not permanently restore a lost marking. A very strong magnetic field is induced in the object, and a solution containing iron filings applied. They will orient in the shape of whatever stamping used to be there, allowing you to read the serial #. This technique is also used to find cracks and flaws in critical parts that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.
