is there any way to charge the coil without the clip?

I'm sure they are, the clip is only made to go on one way.

If you try and jerry rig you're likely to do damage. Yes the coil contacts are polarity sensitive. Go buy a bounty hunter or ace 250 somewhere instead of buggering up your deus.

I posted on another site I believe where you asked of renting in the OBX. There is a local beach company that rents I believe a ACE250 for $50 a week. That is what I would do rather than possibly burning up the coil!

Call Bart and Next Day Air a new clip. Done. Enjoy lots of seafood, beers, and liquor, and as soon as you get over your hangover, the clip will be at the front desk of your hotel. Boom.

I ran the coil till the battery died and found some clad and junk jewelery. Decided not to try and rig the clip since the cuts on the beach weren't what I was expecting. Thanks for the help.

Hate you trip with the Deus was basically a bust. I would buy a second clip and connectors to keep in my vehicle so it will always be there. Or get a few emergency chargers.

I bought an emergency charger and another lead set to carry with me. Once I went out with my Deus and it was dead. The charging clip must not had been seated and it didn't charge when I placed the detector on the charger the evening before. I was 40 minutes from home, so it was a wasted day once I was out there.
