Is the White GMZ better than the MXT for gold hunting?

I have an MXT with the 9.5 coil, and I really want to concentrate on gold prospecting these days. I will mostly be around rivers in the Oregon/Northern California area, as that's where I do most of my panning and highbanking. I'd like to start metal detecting when I go out, but I am wondering if I should invest in a machine dedicated to gold. The GMZ sounds good and doesn't cost much. Would I be better off buying a 4x6 coil for the MXT or what?

The GMZ should be better at finding small gold for sure it runs at 50 kHz, where the MXT runs at 14 kHz as the MXT isn't a dedicated gold detector like the GMZ is. If looking for good sized gold nuggets then I might say to get a small coil for the MXT otherwise I would look at a dedicated gold detector. HH

Thanks for the input. Guess there isn't much experience out there with the GMZ. I also discovered a thread that said the GMZ was being discontinued, so the question may be moot.I'll check further about that.

I just purchased a GMZ . Talked to owners of several gold master md. Some owned the GMZ as well. They convinced me it was Is. A good machine for gold. ( real small stuff) very easy to use and sensitive . Budget minded. Dedicated gold detector. Easy use. Fit my wish list. Taking it out next week for its maiden hunt.

Thanks for that. As it turns out, I bit the bullet and bought a Gold Bug 2. It cost twice as much, but I hate second guessing myself and regretting my decision later. Consensus seems to be that the GB2 is as good a vlf for small nuggets as you can find. and I really like the 71 khz aspect. Can't wait to take it prospecting!
