Hello all,
Is Nazi money worth anything? My buddy's mom was German from Germany. She met his dad at the end of WWII in a hospital, who was a wounded shot down a belly gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber. They wound up marrying and she came to America with him. Anyway, she is dead now but left my buddy a box of Nazi money, both paper and coins. She had tried to cash them in at various times of her life but was always told it was worthless due to the fact that it was Nazi Deutsch Marks with the eagle and swastica on them.

Is that true, that it is worthless? Seems like since it was ligitimate money issued by the German government, even if under Nazi rule, it would be redeemable. I am just curious about this.
Thanks,
Pistolero

i don't believe that it is still legal tender, but that does not make it worthless, it reminds me of an event about 25 years ago. when i had the chance to buy about $8000.00 worth of confederate bills for only $250.00, but i made the mistake of listening to someone who said that they were worthless. but now, after seeing how much they are selling for on ebay, i can't kick myself enough for passing up that deal :'( .

but on the same note, i think i'd hold onto the the nazi money for another 20 years or so, to let them gain more value, as there stiil may be quite a bit of it out there on the market, and also there are probably many caches of it still hidden in various locations thru-out europe. i think i've even heard a tale of someone insulating an entire exterior wall of a building in germany with old nazi bills, i'd love to find that stash of cash ;D .

Quite simply put , the Government that issued the money no longer exists . I had a ton of it myself and it has little more than collectors value . Even the accounts in Swiss banks that were opened with Deutsch Marks were declared null after the war . BTW , is any of it overprinted with a greater value than when it was first produced ? If not it is early "Hitlerzeit" money .(The time of Hitler - 1933 -1945).

The local coin store owner told me that nazi coins were very popular with younger kids, he sells the 1 pfennigs for a buck apiece.

alot of it is not worth a whole lot but the right coin in the right condition can be worth a little sum I am looking in my standard catalog of german coins 1601 to presentthe highest unc price is about 300.00but that it in just minted condition and if it was in the ground it mostlikely not that with all the porosity chemical reactions etc.the average fine condition coin in the one pfenning is about 10 cents i hope that helps i have a ton of manuals and catalogues if you ever need a price i also like to buy ( looking for slave tags and shackels [email protected]
