Hey all, I recently purchased this civic curved dip German WW2 Police helmet for a lesser sum of money along with some other militaria and I was wondering if anybody could tell me if it was real or not. I know it may be hard to tell from the pictures so if anyone could tell me some distinguishing features that would let me know if it was truly original.

Some key points, the liner has the numbers 99 and 58 on it in two different spots
the inside of the shell on the back has a stamp that appears to read "D.R.F THALE" and a large "A"

After some research I have found that the stamp means it is from the Eisenhüttenwerke company of Thale that carried out prototype design and testing, with Dr. Friedrich Schwerd.

If anyone could tell me any information on this helmet to know if it is real I would greatly appreciate it.

(Also I know this kind of isn't "what is it" but I need help identifying it so I do not know where else to post)

I do not think it is paint, but it does not look like paper either

The insignia are decals. You can see the clear edge. Looks authentic in every way to me. It also had years of wear, it appears. Nice find.

"...years of wear".?
With regards to a helmet? Nice pun there!! :)

.... or maybe that's where the saying originates?

Imho (and not being a total expert):

Yes and no. The helmets with the extra vent holes were issued to the firebrigades which were later reorgnized into the policeforce as "Feuerschutzpolizei". So its essentially a firebrigade helmet.

Mind you, these helmets were produced espcially in the fire brigade form for years (decades?) after WW2, since the m34 helmet was simply an excellent design. Details how to recognize the post war production eveade me. Yet if it was a fake, the seller would likley covered the extra holes and would have passed it SS (much more money).

Ok thanks, I was looking at this and I believe it is a Civic Curved Dip helmet

I may be mistaken but I think this is the helmet. The liner looks very old and the stamp looks original. Also as a few people mentioned, I am sure the decals are real too.

I googeld a little bit and you can actually still buy the "traditional form", but only in plastic: https://www.schuberth.com/produkte/feuerwehr/f130.html
