I purchased this unit about 4 years ago. I didn't do any reach on it which I normally reach the crap out of something before buying. My parents had one and alway talked about how good it was, so I just took there word on it. My brother has a mine lab and we went out together trying them out. Which I was just learning my mxt and he had a friend telling him how it set his up but he kicked my butt that day. Now that I have used this mxt 300 for a few years it is great on coins but I have my doubts on gold rings or just rings in general. I know I can't just go out and find rings everytime but haven't found one yet not even a cheap one. Would love to hear from everyone, and I don't hear a lot of talk about them.

Bury a couple rings and try it in your yard. There will be no doubt in your mind if it works or not. I've only found one gold ring and have been doing this forever. You will not swing over them often for sure and if you don't dig junk signals (I cherry pick a lot due to time) you will not find the gold.

They are a great unit. They do a good job on coins, as you mentioned, but they also do a good job on gold,,,as in prospecting. They're not quite as good as the GMT for really small gold, but overall, they're a decent prospecting machine. I haven't used one for gold rings, but would be very surprised if they didn't do well at that.

I dig everything. Maybe that's my problem lol it's crazy how much trash is out there.

Curious now id say between 3 years ya u do have some decent time with it have u at all tried any different coils with it or are u still only using the stock coil? Im now using a v3i which I cant seem to put it down lol & was really liking the 10dd coil it came with great with emi, pinpointing, depth in the Woods is great separation in trashy áreas also great, now I did pick up the 950 concentric not bad at all,but if I had the choice of 1 would b 10dd,& now that ones off & I think I have 1 (2) that im goin to use probly for everything now & thats the 10x12sef & its little bro the 6x8 sef they do all the dd does & more great coils & do recomend them over any

Many yellow gold rings are in the pull tab range so if your disc out pull tabs, there go the gold rings. White gold rings, usually have nice stones and these can ring up in the high iron or foil range. Silver rings are more conductive and will read up in the silver coin range. The MXT is a great detector and you just have to get the coil over a ring.

It came with a 12" coil and I got a eclipse 5.3 high trash and the pinpointer which helps so much. Now I was having problems with the 12" coil and haven't put it back on but the 5.3 works so well in the areas I have been going.

I dont know id say if u got some budget try those sef & if the 5.3 is all u got u need a bigger 1 anyways ive seen them go pretty cheap online I actually got mine through kellyco they were great mailed it right out next day & have me a better deal from What was on there web page cuz im a tnet member so if u do which i definetly recomend ull get the best from all the coils into 1 & blow ur brother away in finds. I went through Roberto Morales over there great guy

I didn't realize how good my MXTPro was until I purchased a MineLab E-Trac. I still have my MXTP. Not the Etrac!

In the right hands with the right coil the MXT is every bit as deep as the E-trac or the V3i, the D2 (whites 10"DD coil) is a great coil for those really deep targets and the one I use 95% of the time. HH

Anything will keep up with anything as Long as the user knows the machine

Not all detectors are equal in the depth department for sure, with the right coil I've got silver dimes at 12" before with a lot of silver dimes at the 10" range. I detect an old park that's been pounded since the 60's and can still pull old silver out of it, of course there all at 10"+ and you just won't get silver with any detector at a place like that. HH

I absolutly agree there my v3i makes my prism 4 look like a toy in the depth dept I also agree with the coil to pending on the coil in the right situation ull pull deep items out

MXT is excellent on gold rings. Mine locks right on. If I get bored with pull tabs, I try to memorize 2 or 3 of the common VDI numbers for the pull tabs in the area and if I get a different number other than the 2 or three mentioned, I DIG! That is how I discriminate through the pull tabs. I do not disc out the tabs, I just listen and monitor them.

In my opinion the MXT is one of the best detectors out there and has been for many yrs, I run a 5.3 eclipse concentric coil 90% the time, and run discrimation on 1, and I only pass over iron signals, dig all else, all aluminum, all foil. Its the only way to find gold jewelry, small gold will disc out easy if you turn the discriminator up. I also use the 5" excelerator dd coil for tot lot hunting, this coil skews the depth reading and coin id's but its killer to slice and dice in heavy trash areas. Too small for dirt hunting. I hear thru the grapevine that Whites may be coming out with a multiple frequency MXT soon, waterproof and smaller housing. We shall see. Last summer I found several pieces of gold jewelry, one was a .9 gm 14K earring, and also a 14K religous medal with a 10K chain, also found a 1.7 gm 10 kt black hills gold ring with a tiny diamond. Lots of coins, lots of aluminum, but if you run the discrimination at 1 on the dial you will start to find the gold along with the coins and trash. Go slow too. Crisscross possible targets at different angles to analyze better before digging.

Thanks, that is the main thing i need help on setting up the detector and what to dig. I have been digging everything, thinking that I may miss the gold ring. After digging all the trash and pull tabs it gets old very fast, and don't get very far. I think my biggest problem is I need to learn my detector better. It's sad to see so much trash in all the parks where I good.

What you want to do is learn your detector the simplest way you can before you get discouraged and give up on the hobby. Listen to what it's telling you and try to guess the target before you dig. At first you will need to dig a lot of targets but remember the sounds of each type, the VDI's if available, the repeatability of certain types of metals in multiple directions, etc. Once you get good at it you will be able to choose most of your targets. The golds always going to be tricky but you will know the range that it can fall into and will not have to dig every piece of junk in hopes of finding one. To dig everything for ever will not only drive you insane but will greatly limit the amount of ground you can cover and it's all about swinging the coil over the prize.

I have to say I met up with a member tuesday at a park with our metal detector. They went over a few things and was a great big help for me I need to give them a BIG THANK YOU! The biggest thing I think I was having is not know my VDI numbers on my targets. I went out today using what they showed me and have a really good time metal detecting. Oh and I was getting in to big of a hurry trying to cover to much ground. I can't thank everyone enough for all the help and advice.
Thanks
Ok prospector
