Is it silver?

I saw a post today from FoundInNC that mentioned he found his first silver thimble. I had no idea that thimbles were made of silver. I found this one several months ago at a 1800s home site. How do I know if its silver other than the reading my detector gives me? It's color certainly says silver. Thanks for looking!
