I know that wet ground = better conductivity which = more targets. My question is, can you hunt when it's been raining for days and the ground is super saturated? I tried one night earlier in the week and ended up looking like I'd taken a mud bad. I found it impossible to use my pinpointer, as the soil is so heavy. It made a mess out of the sod too. Just wondering what others do when it rains so many days in a row. I know there are a lot of diehards on here who would hunt in a row boat if necessary, so can you give this newbie some advice? :)

Been huntin a ballfield down the road from me...water so bad it just lays in areas.

I cut a BIG plug. Not my normal size because like you said...it can be heck on the sod. The big plug makes putting things back a lot easier.

When my signals deep, I scoop out the dirt and squish it into a ball so it doesnt drop everywhere...When I put it back I mush it in so when I put the plug back...it looks like i wasn't even there.

The only thing i have a problem with detecting in the muck is foil...I get a whole different reaction to the tiniest pieces...and I'd feel like I'm passin over some deep old dime if I dont dig that faint signal.

And you're right...I end up looking like I was a happy pig rolling in the mud by an hours hunts time. I keep wipin my hands on my pants so I dont get the goo all over my machine.

Now that I know I'm not the only one desparate enough to consider this, I'm going to give it a try. It is a very interesting mental picture. Grownups making mudpies. I'd better bring my kids with me so that no one calls the police. Maybe I'll wrap myself up in plastic or wear my bathing suit and go barefoot..that way I can just hose myself off on the patio before entering the house. ;D The only saving grace is that the inclement weather might keep passersby to a minimum and therefore reduce gawkers.
