I'v re-typed this in lower case, because I'v got a yard full of rocks thrown at me, and they are not gold! Thanks to replies about the rock. I did see an article in a miner's journal magazine that pretty well described it. It was call "Calvanite"..and now I'm about as puzzled as ever. Someone asked does it react to a metal detector..no. I tested it with my Whites 4B which loves any kind of metal, but nothing.
I really don't think it amounts to much. Tumbleweed509

Re: IS IT GOLD?

If there was more green in the quartz, I'd say there from some chrysoprase present. The only chrysoprase I ever found was on Little Canyon Mountain just south of Canyon City. If you get over that way, do stop in at the Herman Oliver Museum in Canyon City, to look at the mineral collection and gold display there, if they still have it out. May be too expensive to let everyone see it now.

Last time I was there they had a beautiful piece of rotten quartz with vugs on the lower half, and chrysoprase on the upper half. Inside each vug was a small gold nugget, like a BB. Beautifully finished piece!
