Is it a Star of Texas?

Found this today at a pre 1868 Homestead....any clues to what it may be?
Has what appears to be two attachment points on the back...

Seems the consensus is a rossete then,my next question would be,is there a signifigance of the star or is this just an average piece....

Since yours only has two posts on the back it may have been worn as a badge vs the one I
have has the 4 prongs that may have punched through leather for a horse bridle. They are
very cool.
