Is it a old or modern bullet?

I found this today before it started raining. I found a three ringer yesterday at the same site. It doesn't look modern to me but I am no expert. There's one ring near the base going around it. It appears to be just slightly larger then a 40 s+w but hard to tell with the base being distorted. I was thinking a pistol bullet can anyone tell me what it is or what gun was chambered in that round. Or what era it was used? Thanks in advance.
