Definitely not a musket buttplate. I've seen something like that recently but it's going to take a while for me to remember what it was. I thinking maybe a foot for something?

I have seen that somewhere as well. Maybe the bottom of a jack. :-\ My Dad had an old cast iron shoe repair stand that might have had a bottom like that.

Maybe the foot off an old school desk.

Now I'll have to go dig in my junk pile. I hunt the remains of an old schoolhouse across the pasture from me on a regular basis. Maybe that is where I saw that object.

Shoe repair stand would get my vote.

That's the first thing that came to my mind before I saw any of the responses. I used to walk by a cobbler shop every day on my way to school and it has that look about it.

My Dad still repairs his own shoes with one of those things in his garage. I wish I could get a pic of the base.

I believe it is part of a shoe stand repair. The post is missing.
