✅ SOLVED Is it a Horse or Mule bit or what???

Don't know what it is, not a bit though. Noting the wear on the ring and the link it looks like it's been used a lot for what ever it was used for.

The stirrup is from an english riding saddle and we use snaffle bits that are similar to that but not that heavy gauge of chain for the mouth piece..my wife is the expert on tack when she gets home from work I'll show her your pics..

It looks like the link between two chains or straps on a mule that would plow or a horse pulling a wagon. You can see the wear on one of them

It does look like a snaffle bit, but too narrow I think, and chain is too big. I agree that it could be part of tack for pulling a wagon?

I think I figured out what the rings and links are, they are part of the spreader chains for holding the wagon tongue up between the animals. Snaffle bits are NOT made with chain. 1Bspreader chains.webp

They had many, many uses and came in different lenghts. They could be made by a smith or bought from Sears. Tony

I think i got it now...Are they seeding drill chains???View attachment 955884

Looking at the wear on your find, I think you have solved it. More likely for covering up the seed. Forgot about that, I never did much seeding, and that was a long time ago.
