Hi everyone. My son and I got out for a hunt today, and we had a lot of fun together.
One of our first holes turned up the coin-like item pictured below. As you'll see there's no recognizable image on either side of this disk, at least as far as I can tell.
Why I think it could be a coin:
- it's in an area that produces other coins, and our town is old (1742 old) so it could be an old copper
- it's not magnetic. I think the metal is copper, but I can't be sure.
- it's exactly 27mm in diameter, the same as a KG3 Hibernia I dug up earlier this year.

But...there's no recognizable image on either side (could just be a slick one).
But...the way the metal is "flaking away" seems weird to me. Do old coins do this in this way?
But...it's a bit thin (though so is my KG3 Hibernia - it's a 1783 non-regal contemporary counterfeit).

Anyway, please share your thoughts. Coin, or not?

Oh, and we found a nice Buffalo Nickel (and some wheaties and a bunch of more modern clad), so overall it was a good afternoon.

- Brian

Nice finds!

It’s a coin and you should have an ID here shortly.

Hi Brian! Nice finds by you and your son! In all likelihood is a toasted KG copper, though some may claim it's a "Flowing Hair Largie." :laughing7:

Hunting with your son is a great day regardless, the finds make it that much better- Nice job!

Nice Buffalo Nickel and probable large copper...
