Don, they often remove the last three zeros in mintage figures, just look at the figures for 1886M, 1887M in the same series with mintage of .010 each, they didn't just make ten of them.You might have a Mexican 5 centavos minted in Culiacan in the year 1873. In fine condition (without a hole) it might be worth about $50 (retail). It's mintage was 4,992. But check out the possibility the coin may have been minted i that same year in Chihuahua instead. If so, the coin would have an unknown number minted but be worth twice as much. Go figure

Mintages were that low in several 5 centavos Mexican coins of that era. For example, 1869 San Juis Potosi (14k) and 30k for same year from Chihuahua;20k from the Mexico City mint in 1873,12k in 1880 (Alamos); and 3-5k mintages from Durango in 1877-1891.But rarity, per se, does not create value, you need demand for that--and MX coins have not caught on as US coin have.
