Iron whatsit. Is it a bit? If so, any oher details? Age?

I found this in a junky area in a park in S. Florida where it looked like there might have been a cabin at one time. Somebody told me it is a horse bit, but I don't know about that. If it is, or isn't, I'd like any ideas concerning details and age? Thanks as always.

its called a snaffle bit a u shaped piece of rolled leather went over each cheek piece to a single reign hard to say what year as they are still popular today

its called a D Ring snaffle bit used for green horses.
Most defenatly a bit
the end rings used to swivel as well

To answre one question, it is made of iron and quite rusty.

I've learned a bit about bits and appreciate all the input. It seems like there is no doubt about this one now.
