this one has me stumped. I found 3 or 4 of these in a large trench or cut in road (I still cant figure out why someone would dig a 6' wide 4' deep road 200 yards to nowhere) and I get many more signals I know are the same. this is near an area that was strip mined. are these teeth from some digging machine? from there severe rusted state they must be very old. Heres the pics one cleaned up one not they are 1.5 inches long.

They look like the things that fit into bookcases to hold the shelves up, but just rusted over. Monty

Yes they do look like that but they are way too heavy plus only modern furnature is made that way this is a very old site, remote, with no modern trash and finally a shelf supports flat side is offset from the pin in the opposite direction

This is a picture of some more like what you found. I found these at an old school that was built in the late 1940s. This is more like what I was referring to.But not quite the same. Monty

Kinda like a modern day ditch-witch?

Exactly, the small ones can be mounted on the backs of small tractors, etc. A friend of mine out in Wyoming has one he mounts on the back of a modified 4-wheeler. Between that and his post hole digger (also 4-wheeler mounted) he makes 60k a year hiring out to ranchers and farmers. You should see the collection of artifacts he has. Hundreds of points and other things, all found while trenching or digging fence post holes out in the middle of nowhere.
