Iron "taco", old nails, gunshot, and cemetery rail!

After cutting the grass and before the rain I played around in the yard with the XLT ...nothing outstanding but found more old nails and gunshot...a couple of odd iron pieces. One looked like a square nail with a decorated piece that crumbled as I cleaned it. Best find was an 8 foot rail that belongs to the historic cemetery...Finally found one of them...That should be easy, right?

Nice variety of old nails. I found one earlier this year that looked like a small buffalo chicken wing bone. Sometimes really deep rusty old iron square nails give a false high tone on my detector. I usually know it will be an iron nail when I get my pin pointer in the hole and the signal is just too strong to be a non iron signal. I've lately been at an old site that has quite a few brass square nails. These are impossible for me to discriminate out, plus they are sort of cool and almost look pristine. Good luck!

You keep cleaning that iron from the yard and you are liable to find silver or old copper!

Yes, Pa...these iron nails often give a strong signal....When I was cleaning out a nail bed earlier this year I found my first large cent...1839. I was ecstatic! So I keep digging even if it is to find nails because one of these time I will "nail" it again. I have also happened upon a couple of Indian heads and a V nickel this way! Mzjavert, thanks for input on taco thing. I have no clue yet about that piece. [emoji54]
