Iron relic cleaning process that worked great for me.

Here are the before and after pics of an iron eagle object I found while detecting. I soaked the eagle in white distilled vinegar for a day and a half. Every twelve hours or so I would pull it out of it's bath to hit it with a wire brush and then return it to soak further. Finally, I soaked the item in EvapoRust. I will be using this to clean more iron I find in the future.

Sorry to inform you, but I see bits of flaky rust that will pop off and continue to rust beneath it.

Easy fix, a little longer soak and hit it with the wire brush. Thanks for the observation. It has come quite a way from the beginning state of the eagle to present though, don't you think?

I use a sharp metal pick to pry those nasty rusty spots off.
