Iron piece from civil war site

Found this at a civil war union encampment in northern Alabama. My best guess is the back of a pick axe. The only thing is that the slit is pretty skinny, maybe half inch. Thanks in advance.

It does look and remind me of a maddox pick ax, but it also reminds me of the various types of different shape hammer heads you'd find in a lineup of blacksmith tools. It's a something for sure is all I can say at this point. Hopefully a bell will ring in the head of some other Tnet folks out there. I must say you sure are a serious looking treasure hunter for such a young age. :thumbsup:

It looks like the remains of an old school digger or front loader bucket tooth adapter.
