iron object

this iron object i dug , may or june of 2001, it was located along with some shards of pottery date 1865 marmalaid jar, these artifacts were found inside an old iron box , 33 inches deep 42 inches wide 66 inches long, was built with plates of metal rivoted together, it had no lid, but it had holes for rivots assuming pieces were missing. buried in a riverbank. identifying this piece is very important to me, i know someone can figure this one out, but its not me, any help would be greatly appreciated. matty

looks like it may have went on the train tracks. i have seen something like that piece that went inside of another round piece and it could be turned.
