Found this doing mulch, thought it might have been slag metal that went through a chipper but a sample prepper told me no way. It's iron. Hoping it's iron nickle. Lmk what you speculate. 54 grams 7 cm^3

717...hmmm, surely a head scratcher...I take it was a surface find doing mulch...I really don't know! Interesting tho...Ddf.

DDF, yes a surface find. We had a trailer full of mulch we were shoveling out and I heard it ding against my shovel. It's weight caught my attention then I took it home and cleaned it to this point. It appears to have naturally occurring patterns, however perhaps too rough of surface to have fired through the atmosphere, yet I have no other explanation. The geological sample prep guy doesn't believe it's a ball bearing that tumbled through a wood chipper, and he was also stumped. A meteorite expert via email said it's too round to be a meteorite, but I remain optimistic. Would like to get spectroanalysis performed on it.

Thanks for your input. New to this forum. Pretty cool place

Interesting find! Hope you receive a definitive answer on its make-up! :occasion14:

Thanks , Professor. Am going to try testing it for nickle and will share the results hopefully within a week or two. Cheers!
