It's a blacksmith made item to do a specific job. One of a pair to hoist plywood or tin???? Tony

Strange little dodad. The 'hook' part isn't very hooked so as to actually lift something.....

It seems to me that I have seen something like this used in conjunction with chains, but can't remember where. .. maybe with a chain dog or hoist .. or something along those lines.

Could it be like a ratchet ticker/lock....Sorry but I don't know the name..Ya know like the thing that stops a jack from falling....Clicks going one way,but locks it from going the other...Does that make ANY sense..

Looks like a hook that grabs a link of chain on something like a fence stretcher. You'd hook it on a link, pull the handle to stretch it, then release the handle, re-hook it farther down the chain, and pull again until it was stretched tight. The slot is where the other link ahead of the link being grabbed would fit.

Yea, Mojjax try putting a chain in there sideways to see how it fits. :icon_thumright:
