I think it's some type of rivet button, and I can see a "R" at the top. REX made a hand operated iron rivet press punch machine around the turn of the century. Maybe the R stands for Rex. Interesting find, Breezie

Im going way out on a limb here but I have seen something similar on a coin. One of the colonial countries.. I just cant recall.

There appears to be a crown above the R.

It may be a monogram.

I see a 'C' below the R & a large 'U' in the background. The crown like thing is really a fluer-de-lis type design on the top of a long staff ending in a up-side-down V :dontknow:

Good eye CRU, and yes it looks like a Fluer-de-lis to me too. The "U" could be a "V." Breezie

Any chance that's an anchor running through the middle? or something similar? Might help you find something about it.

yep it looks more like a Fleur De Lis.

electrolysis may help.

At first I thought it looked like an anchor too, but now it's looking more like a Griffin or the likes thereof. Breezie

I'm thinking instead of "C," it's a vine/branch in the Griffin's hand that extends out to the Fleur-de-lis. Whutchya'll think? Breezie

This doesnt solve anything but the center "Fleur De Lis" closely resembles the I on this late 1800's IOH fraternity badge. So I would say its an I running down the middle of a monogram and not the Fleur De Lis, anchor, or griffin . http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,321310.0.html

I think we have an IRCU monogram. (or RCIU, RCUI, ...etc)
