Iron band and Round Copper Disc

Couple of items I need to Id. I'm sure they are common but I can't figure it out...

The first is a 5" iron ring that is reminiscent of a bearing race for those of you familiar, except that it has a built it cavity along the outside edge that would prevent it being a mechanical wheel type item, as pictured...The center hole is 2" and one side is concave.

The second is a copper disc that is 2" in diameter and has a fluted edge sort of like a coin. Looks like a small buckle or Martingale but the center section has me stumped. Looks like three holes for tying it on or something...maybe a civilian buckle of some sort?

Both found on Civil War skirmish ground but this, of course, means nothing. Could be from any time period...
