Iron artifact mystery #2

All, this iron artifact was found near a farmhouse built in the 1880s and inhabited ever since. At first I thought it was part of a shelf brace — but it seems too small for that. Also there are no screw holes to be found. Then considered a stirrup, but seems too small for that to. Appreciate any ID and age.

Common material, indefinite shape that may have been on purpose or coincidental.

Reminds me of hold down dogs which are driven in holes on a workbench to hold down wooden pieces being worked on.
