Ive been stalking these forums for long enough to realize there isn't a lack of young men captivated by the idea of striking out on their own into the wilderness for some prospecting. I admit I'm one of "those guys" .... You know, one that watched Gold Rush Alaska and thought that looked easy? We'll I'm also a realist and read enough from experienced prospecters to know there would be a lot of hardship waiting for me in the backwoods. I read once that your first few years are just investments in learning more than finding any real value in the ground. I currently live in the lower peninsula of Michigan and have been panning at local creeks. Every time I go out I find a few specs :) Anyways. Long story somewhat shortened.... Is there anyone or anywhere that offers a school of hard knocks style prospecting education? I want nothing more than to spend my summer playing in the dirt learning from someone who knows what they're doing.

I'm not good at advice but the god settles where the water slows. you might be able to take a 1pz lead weight and cast it in to the river to see what path it takes
