All directly on line to significant carved signs. All narrow band pointers. All relatively easily findable. All permanent except from man made destruction. They function exactly like a surveyor's control points.

wow, great photos and info. springfield, thanks for putting it out there. i have seen some of those large split boulders.with the other half still sitting there, and some with piece missing.thanks.

Hi Springfield,

Thanks for the pictures.

I want to make sure I'm understanding them. The top two show split rocks. Do you site through the split to go to the next marker?

On the middle two pictures, the one on the left, I see the rock in the back with the smaller rocks under it, is it tied in with the big rock in the front of the picture? And the picture on the right that looks like half a sphere, do you site along the flat side to go to the next marker?

The splits in the rock look pretty clean, I'm jumping to the conclusion that they were split by man, is that right? If so, do you know how it was done?

Finally, do you know who set the trail up and when?

Thanks again.

Rick

There is something else I forgot to ask, is the bottom picture an arrow pointing left.

Thanks

A Yes, if you sight directly along the centers of those cracks and follow the line, you will find apparently non-Amerind carvings within 1/4 mile (one direction only).
B Yes, there is a petroglyph part way up the ridge in the background.
C Yes. The flat face is the sighting line.
D It's my belief the first rock is natural. The second one seems to have tool marks around the crack, but I can't be sure. The second rock also has carvings on its 'base'.
E It's actually a christian-style cross which points directly to both an empty smelter site a mile or so way to the right and a major set of carvings and other things about ten miles to the left.
F I don't know who did these, but I suspect most of them were set up between 1880 and 1935, more or less. The cross, I believe, was erected in the 20th century to augment a much older site.

Thanks Springfield,

There is a rock where I'm at that is similar to your half sphere. You also have to site along the flat side to get to an important group of carvings. There is also a carved out box on the upper part of the flat side with an AF carved in the back of it with the F pointing to the carvings about 250 yards away.

I appreciate the information you offer in your posts. Thanks again.

Rick
