Well, to say the least, this has got to be one of my most "interesting" finds. And like a dumb*ss, I started to clean it and the patina started to come off, so I'm just gonna clean the whole thing now. I found this out in the woods not too far away from my house. I thought it was going to be a silver half before I dug it, but I'll take this too. I wonder if this was some marketing thing, or if they actually gave lots to people when they brought this in? Hope you guys enjoy, and as always if anyone knows exactly what this could be, holla back!

Beautiful find........Loks to be Copper/Brass? If you have some shock treatment for your pool (27% Hydrogen Peroxide) You can soak it for a week and clean it up..........Very Nice

Now that's a great find!!

I wonder what the gimmick was - like the misc fees. The local historical society might know something about it. First one I've seen & I can see how seeing it in the hole would be a shocker! ;D

jeff of pa identified it as an early 20th century Land Grant Token. A similar one on ebay was listed and sold for $60. 00. Looks like I'll hang on to this one for a while.

The tribune did something like that back around the turn of the last century, giving away lots in Valley View (north of St. Charles) during a subscription drive. Who knows what the market gimmick was here but it's a great find!

That's a cool find!
I've never seen or heard of one of those before.
