Found these when I started to excavate the cellar hole floor. Deep tucked in a corner were these 2, an axe head not pictured, and tons of old broken clay pottery. Any idea of age? SOMEBODY GOT THE SIDE PLOW , NEEEEET .

I'm trying to calculate how old the site is. I haven't found any coins yet, only iron relics

Not yet. Still getting out all the glass. There was a little cubby hole in the wall, but full of perfect non corroded square nails. Total bummer...

Your clue will likely lie within your ceramic/porcelain shards. Maker's marks, feathered edges, patterns, transfer print, cream ware, pearl ware ......etc etc

I've found a lot of pattern shards, one piece had the name "Severn" and looked to be hand painted. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1450489799.112245.jpg I know nothing about pottery....

Severn may just be a "pattern" name for the porcelain design. If there are that many shards, then there is bound to be some indication of other maker marks that may establish some date range to the pit. Not always easy to find a complete bowl, plate or cup but the details found in the shards is a good resource. I tend to keep the shards and in many cases can epoxy some pieces all back together. If nothing else, examine each shard that you find before discarding it, it may hold your clue.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going back Monday with my new CTX3030, so I'm sure more finds will emerge!
