Greetings,
It has been a while. I hope everyone is doing well.

I found this interesting piece of quartz yesterday while digging out an area in my garden. It has a texture I normally don't find on quartz and has a nice sharp edge. It seems to be sharpened along one edge on both faces. It is not the most common material for artifacts in this area. I would love to get some opinions, do you think this is an artifact?

Thank you for looking.

Pictures just do not do justice. I see what you are thinking - I would have picked up. I think you just have a quartz reduction flake.

I have to agree with jmaschal. Its hard to photograph the fine details on a quartz artifact. But, quartz was a handy material, if you needed a razor’s edge in a hurry.
I think I see the details you point out. Maybe a few more photos (try close to a light bulb) will reveal that edge work.

Yep a flake.... But that means there could be one close by

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate you taking the time to look and share your knowledge.

Yeah it's tricky to photograph. I made some more attempts, not sure if I caught the detail any better. I can photograph galaxies millions of light years away but I get stumped with a piece quartz. :laughing7: I may try again with another setup.

That is the fun part for me. The find itself is just what it is, but the possibilities it presents can make my imagination run wild. I have found a few pieces on my property. I am not in the most ideal location and if you consider how much digging and searching I've done I probably would have found a whole lot more by now if this was an ideal spot. Every time I dig an area or rain washes new stuff out I'm always checking what might have washed out.

If it is "Just a flake" I am happy for that. :)

Okay, I think I finally got the camera to "see" the detail I am seeing. Sharp edge is the top edge in each. If still just a flake by this photo I still can't complain.

I see what appears to have uni-faced edge-work. It’s a possible blade-let.

But an experienced flint-napper can tell us if this flake was worked before or after it was removed.
