About 16 inches, left part looks like it has been snapped off. Long part is still square.

Possibly part of a beds headboard.

Alot of Iron for a bed frame....thx
I know I was thinking the same but wanted to throw out another possibility. The only reason I thought that, Is I have seen an iron bed frame around a grave in our old cemetery that was pretty ornate it was all wrought iron turned into a fence around the grave.(1800's graveyard).

Just a thought, I'm not sure because I haven't seen one shaped quite like this, but the base is square like this one. Could it be a holdfast?

Three things make me think not a holdfast. Fancy, 16 inches seems long, and square shank. Blacksmith
holdfasts fit in the round pritchel hole, not the square hardy hole. The swell in the shank, and the scroll
make me think of it being a part of something fancy, gate, bed, fence, etc.
The first photo is a blacksmith using a hold fast, and the second is what one usually looks like.
