It started as a small manufacturer of scales in Leon, Guanajuato late nineteenth century and a family business that continues to this day became . Scales Escalante was another little known protagonist of the history of Mexican industrial design. Today still made but not innovating in terms of new models. According account the granddaughter of the founder (now responsible for the factory) designs were made by Mr. José Escalante , his grandfather; manufactured small grocery scales
A somewhat similar scale and the source for this tex is found here: Inspiración: Básculas Escalante | Decoración Espontánea

Don..

Thanks Don ! Fantastico !

Following up on Don's research (which is amazing, by the way!!):

To help date your find, I looked up "Jose Escalante" in the Mexico equivalent of the US Patent Office.
I couldn't find the patent (probably because I speak very little spanish!), but I did locate the trademark.
It's called "Las Estrellas" (i.e., "the stars"), and was registered on May 5, 1924.
You can clearly see this design on your scale, so I'm guessing it was manufactured as far back as the mid-20's.

The search entry will pre-fill, so just click the blue "Buscar" key, and then scroll all the way down.
It's the last entry. #19 From 1924.

I think they ID'ed it for you, but I looked at the picture closer and your right. I didn't see anything on the scales either. Maybe it was empty when you bought it.:laughing7:

I cleaned it up a bit .
