Interesting Nut/Cap?

I found this today in the yard of a 1940's farmhouse. It's octagonal, like a nut. The rim on the back is dented and beat up but you can see what appear to be threads on the inside. So it looks like it would screw onto something like a cap of some sort. What I find interesting is the design on the front. It looks like some sort of yoga/meditation/goddess symbol. I'm just curious what it might have been used for. Any ideas?
