Hello all, I reside in NW Arkansas but try to drive out to see my dad for a few weeks every winter in SW New Mexico. Neither of us are experts by any means but we always enjoy getting outside & digging around together. We found several nice pottery pieces over the weekend and 4 stone artifacts all within a 50 foot radius of one another. We were in the vicinity of the Membres river, and to the best of my understanding, the pottery may be attributed to the Membres people & is about 1,000 years old. From what I've read they were known for some of the finest crafted pottery in N America and almost always used black over white designs.

Any thoughts & insight to the stone points/tools is greatly appreciated---

Very nice. Somewhere online is a chart of your area with the pottery and showing the area and who made what. They were masters at the polychrome pottery.
Thank you for sharing.

WOW! You really hit the jackpot with that spot. The one larger piece looks like a it could have been a two hole gorget when it was complete.

Very cool! Thank you for the info...

Nice Finds! Do you do much artifact hunting in new arkansas?

Grim Reaper thx for the info! Not sure if I'm able to identify Steatite, I'm still a bit of a rookie (though trying to learn as much as I can about the hobby & the history) I posted 2 more close up photos of it. It makes kind of a metallic pinging sound when tapped lightly with a spoon.

MacCo yes I do, I get up your way as much as I can near the AR MO state line. Send me a PM & lets get together sometime.

Might want to delete the part about where you find your artifacts...people come to these forums looking for that type of info to steal sites.

I hunted my tail off over the years in New Mexico and now how hard it is to find anything. Nice work. Great finds.
