So on Sunday I went detecting with my friend Ryan and my father. We detected for a few hours and then decided to call it a day. Ryan and I get back to my truck and pack it all up. My father is lagging behind doing his thing while we were waiting in the truck. He comes running over holding a bottle and says follow me I found something. Turns out a bunch of big trees were uprooted and had basically unearthed an old dump site. So we fall out of the truck to the bottle dump and start digging. We found a few little odds and ends but then... My father says, look I found a pen. He goes to throw it into the muck with all the other junk we didnt want. I said let me see that. He tosses it over and as soon as it hit my hand I knew...

I unscrewed the cap and there it was. 14k gold nib. I looked up the pen later and it was some cheapie from NY made in the 20's. The pen was toasted but I saved the gold nib. Just a fun little story I thought you all might enjoy.

Nice story and a good rescue Ben. You guys need to go back and dig that dump. They stopped using the warranted mark around 1950 I believe. The older stuff is always deeper down. I only wish I had something like that to dig down here. I'd be looking for old bottles myself, among other things.
