Found the other day. Looks to be gold gilt after cleaning the crust off. It’s about the size of a penny.Anyone with info would be much appreciated 11E3C1D6-ABCB-4ADD-B0CD-E1DC21910317.jpegA858F73D-522F-411D-819D-A891F3334AA9.jpeg125622B2-2B0F-4D86-8B42-8C94D1065016.jpeg95171CC8-41C3-4727-A5EC-5A172A67BDD5.jpeg

I know it’s not my usual flat button. Around the middle on front there is a circle of smaller dots or stars. It was in pretty cruddy condition when found and was surprised to see the gold

Looks to be a 1790's-1830's (most date from 1810's and 1820's) civilian flat button. Great find, and a nice design on it too. Put in hot lemon juice for less than a minute and the gold gilt will really shine up.

Would lime juice work ok?
