JFeeney and I went out this morning to a 1800s homesite and had some firsts. This token rang in as a shallow penny on my at pro. Ended up being 4 inches deep and didn't know what I had at first. Definitely a scrip token and has a date of April 7 1914 on the bottom. Anyone have a link to the merchants that Ingle System made these tokens for. 1$ in 1914 was a lot of money lol

Also found this mystery coin. Can see no detail on either side. Any ideas as to what it could be JFeeney was thinking maybe a slug. It rang up in the high 80s

The two obverse pictures are just from different angles. Still trying to decide how to clean it...

I think all the known listings for Ingle tokens (from 1910 forward) is at http://tokencatalog.com transcrbed from the original Ingle company ledgers. You may have to search by state and the name on the token with the keyword Ingle to see if it is listed.

Hi, Born--the L. B. Schock token is from Dayton, OH, per the Wagaman Ingle Token book. He made the attribution using a 1918 Dun business directory - Shock had a grocery and meat store. Per the 1910 Census, Lyman B. Shock was a butcher in Dayton at that time.

Dan--I'm curious about what you mean. Did you find a token from L. B. Shock, or did you find an Ingle System token? The dates on the Ingle tokens are the "patent" date and are either 1909 or 1914. Whatcha got???

Nice find, I found a token from them last year. dated 1918.

I found a Ingle System token for a store here in California. Patent date was 1914, issue date however, was 1918. Either way, it was one of my most exciting finds last year, and that lot still keeps giving. Last week I found a 1910 Barber/Liberty/V Nickel and a 1919s Wheatie, just feet from where that token was found.

I thought the token was pretty cool. Thanks for the info L. B. Schock.

Yea, me too. :laughing7: Although, I am sure there are a lot more Mercs to be found than those tokens.
