Hey guys...got out for the first time in a couple of months and I dug this interesting little piece. The site is an early war Confederate SC camp...probably an old homesite that they camped around. The item is just under an inch long, and appears to maybe be made out of pewter...but then it has characteristics of brass. It's definately a military figure...soldier leaning on a musket...but hard to make out any detail. Anybody seen anything like this or maybe as part of bigger device? Thanks for any input...I've included pics of the front and back.

Do you have a jeweler's loop? I would go over it good to see if there are any words stamped in it. It's an interesting find.

I don't have a clue what it could be,but that is a very interesting piece.
When I first seen it I thought it was a VA button cut. But after staring at it,it does look to be a musket.
I am sure someone will have an idea what it is.Congrats.Finding items that you have no clue what it is,
is great ex-specially when it is in a CW camp.

Greg. How's it going? Mike and Maggie here. I'm thinking what you have is NOT a toy. I certainly believe that it was adhered to something ornamental as a decorative piece. I have found "toys" On these old sites but they were funtional. eg. stand up, front and back detail, arms move etc...but, yours, looking at the back, it seems to have affixed to maybe an old clock? or toy box. The bottom of the figurine is Circular as if it spun on something some how...something on those lines. It's a really cool find. Here are a couple "toys" I have dug in SC. If you notice they are nothing like yours at all. Good luck with this one! And thanks for your help earlier this year on the dig event. Mike

It could be Allen but , "as is" it is not funtional to be a toy. It may have been attached to the rest of a toy. The bottom is rounded. I don't think he was meant to stand up though....Hopefully we can get it ID'd .. This post needs to be moved to the "what is it" side where more people can see it....Mike

Just a guess, but I'm thinking a lapel pin. The hole in back once contained the post that went through the fabric?
