Woke up this morning to a dreary day here in Georgia. It rained off and on all last night, and was supposed to be more of the same today. Had plans to go hit a few construction sites I have been working, but they would all be too muddy to hit today. I decided to head to the woods to keep out of the mud and hopefully keep somewhat dry. The spot I had in mind was an area that should hold several Civil War campsites that have so far eluded me. This is one of the road beds I have found in this area.

The road leads up into an area with alot of large rock out croppings, you can just see them on the left up ahead.

Some of them are pretty impressive!

Here is an area that had several trees growing on top and in between rocks.

OK enough rocks!
There are actually detecting finds in this post too!! ;)

This was an unusual collection of stuff.
On the top left is a magazine clip for an M-16 rifle that was full of blanks!! Would like to know the story behind that one! The curvey thing is a piece of deer antler I picked up. Underneath that is my only Civil War find this trip, a lonely minie ball :( Other finds include several keys, the usual fired modern bullets, several brass fittings, a few memorials from around the rocks, and a neat medallion with an archer on it, and a US great seal cuff button. Here are a few closer pics:

For such bad weather conditions I managed to stay mostly dry and found some pretty interesting stuff today!!

D,

nice group of finds.

Sounds like you had an interesting hunt.

Boy, if those rocks could talk, the tales they
could tell.

Nice photos of the area, thanks for posting.

Interesting archer, wonder what that could be.

Again, nice finds.

have a good un..........

No military training that I know of, but there is a police training area not too far away. Maybe the SWAT team did some training up there at one time? Never even thought of that.

That mag is an M-16/AR-15 filled with blank rounds.  We used those rounds when training with our M.I.L.E.S Gear (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System ).  You attach a laser to the end of your issued weapon and when a blank round is fired, the gases from the round activate the laser and fires one laser shot. Each round fires a laser shot..Single, 3 round burst, and full auto.  Each solider wears helmet and body sensors.  The system will register hits and near misses.  The Military have this high tech laser tag system for most small arms all the way up to the main battle gun on thier tanks.  I have a picture of me wearing this system, I will see if I can find it if you wanna see it  ;D

I didn't know they also used this system during the Civil War, Hehehehehe

These are not me...But I found them on the net. These guys are the Air Force....I'm surprised they are actually training hehehe J/K ;D

Excellent post! That archer medallion thing is way cool. And those rocks....oooooo la la, I'd like to have some of those in my front yard. They are truly pieces of nature's beauty. The moss is quite appealing...a-pealing in my flower baskets if I had those rocks!!!!! ;D Did I say I like to garden? Well I do. Funny the things a person will enjoy when doing everything as a single person. But I digress....
RELICS...my favorite things. You got some nice things there. And that deer horn/antler...another little treasure from nature.
Nice post and great pix. Thanks.

Nice finds and site, I always enjoy seeing where people detect. Congrats on the CW finds! HH, Mike

Obviously the old road bed was used not only for the Civil War but for more contemporary uses. There is an old stagecoach road on property I lease for hunting. As of late is has been used for wood cutting and for a stone mason to gather rocks. So, it may not be that unusual for new and old to be mixed. I would check any surrounding flat areas suitable for setting up tents or for use by troops to bivouac. You know there has to be quite a few CW artifacts somewhere near. Do some more research and you might be able to pinpoint it. For now you are on the right trail. Nice finds. Monty

Nice finds and great pics~ looks like fun!
