Looks like a mid to late 19th century sporting button. Can you read the backmark? If so, that could give us a clue as to its age.

thats kinda cool :icon_thumleft:

That is a button found on Shaggy's jacket that stands for the Scooby Doo Club circa 1979! LOL.......jgas

Great button find! I've seen some examples like that as early as the 1830s or '40s. Here's a link to a post I did on button cleaning. There are tips there on how to keep the backmark readable during the cleaning process. If you use water, make sure you let the button dry completely and toothpick the back last of all.

I agree with PBK, a Sporting button, more likely early mid 1800s. I have one very similar and and verified all three in this photo as mid 1800 era buttons, so your button is fairly close to the one I found years ago.

Wish I could find a few more, they are very nice buttons for displaying..

Wow, that is so neat! What are the chances you have found almost the exact same button? I wish I could read the backmark but I can't.

Perhaps Don can read the backmark on his example. :icon_sunny:

Perhaps he cannot no longer since he gave the button away to a friend a few years ago. I probably have photos of the backmarks in my CD files somewhere but will not look at this time.

Brett that is one cool button to add to any collection.
Very unique.
WTG!
