Let me start by saying.. I don't even have an idea in my head of what this is so your guess is as good as mine. What I do know is the context was more than correct to be sure it is an artifact of some kind. There is wear from abrasion weather from its manufacture or use I don't know. I also have multiple similar examples from the same site.

those look like fragments of just plain broken bone
the pieces like the two lighter colored ones are sometimes used as gouges but usually are two or three times as long so the user had something to hold on to
i have some that are like that but they are 7 or eight inches long and are really polished from use
maybe i can find one and post it for you
if i remember right there might be one in the bone stuff i sent you
that type of break on the top end of those two lighter colored pieces instantly lends itself to be used as a gouge with no sharpening needed

I have gouges from there..they made them just a bit different... usually anyway...also the use wear on a gouge is normally consistent with rough work and not fine abrasion. Time takes its toll on things like polish on much of the bone material down this way. On Unaltered broken sections of bone You can usually see The web like framework Of the bone structure. Except for when it has been ground down. Here is a photo of what I mean.... First. Broken.. Next ground.

IMG_1318.jpgIMG_1322.jpg what do you think?

Yes... those are gouges from my area. Looks like a gouge you have there also... see how the bit end gets damaged? Usually nicks and chips... I'm guessing from woodwork.

The more I look at those pieces that I've shown the more I think if used for anything.. which I think they were.... The use wear lends itself to pottery making. (Smoothing)
