This belongs to my neighbor, he was trying to get some information on it, he said it is from Japan .The knife is 10" long, the blade is 5 1/2" long, the handle is wood with copper wire swirled up it. There are no markings anywhere besides the painted 1947 and sword on the blade, it looks kind of souvenir ish to me? Thanks for any information or thoughts you might have on the knife!

The writing on the blade reminds of me of something from the Saudi Arabia or Turkey or there about. It has a pommel similar to that of a bayonet just without a spring release. The last picture shows how bad the fitting of the pieces are. they don't line up very well. Also the painting is a Star of sorts over a Scimitar.

Agreed, it looks pretty crudely made, and the star and scimitar motif definitely say middle eastern or at least Muslim to me....

1947 is the year that the UN decided to partition Palestine and form Israel, so maybe there could be some connection there?

Thank you ffuries and NOLA_Ken for your interesting comments on the knife, looking at the construction it is probably just a homemade knife making any traceability to its origin very difficult but I'm with you guys thinking it is Middle Eastern or made to look like it.

Thanks again,
