Hi, just been furiously looking for some information on panning. I live in Kansas, but I don't think there is much gold here. Or anything else. But once a year we get to go to Colorado. The Breckenridge area. Last year when we were there we tried asking at local shops and at the Forestry dept about restrictions on panning in the streams there. Most people just looked at us like we had lost our minds. The question burning in my mind is: What are the restrictions on public lands. Federal lands, etc. And where do I go to find the maps or other helpful info so I don't land up in the pokie some place. After all Marshall Dillon won't be there to help LOL

Go to your favorite online bookseller and look for "Guide To Gold Panning" by Bill Barlee. It is a Canadian book and deals primerily with British Columbia but the panning and hunting is generic and will work anywhere. Fred

Also, i know that here in virginia they have day and week long panning classes and trips.... you might want to check that out where you live

You also might want to consider joining the GPAA and getting one of their starter kits. You get all the goods plus a guide that shows where gold has been found before for virtually all areas of the country.
