It's a German coin made before 1900. That all I know.I look it up in The World Coin Book.

I disagree.I think it's token money of some sort.I'm still working on it.It does say Ersatzgeld (token money) on it right? What does the other side say-stadtgemeinde (town village) neu? (oder) a river that flows through central Europe including Germany, particularly Frankfurt in Brandenburg which borders Poland, not Frankfurt on the Main in Hesse. What are the missing letters that I can't see (neu?)? Here is something similar from 1918-

50 pfennig Ersatzgeld
Badische Anilin-Soda Fabrik Ludwigshafen
Zinc square, 24 mm

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

The legend on the obverse is STADTGEMEINDE NEUSALZ (ODER) (for the municipality of Neusalz on the Oder river) and ERSATZGELD (literally “replacement money”) on the reverse. So, yes it’s definitely token coinage, produced in 1920 to alleviate the shortage of small change after WWI. Neusalz is now in Poland and named “Nowa Sól”, but at the time was in the Prussian province of Silesia

Very interesting token. Its analogous to the hard times and civil war token then it sounds like.
minted due to hard specie shortage, to assist in the public purchases.
