I like seeing all the new folks on here that have taken up this hobby and that ask questions. For most of the old members we need to know #1 where has it found( State, county) was it a creek find or a field find. Then we need something for size reference that is very important !!!! Just for example I could post that I found a very nice grinding bowl size 001.JPGsize 002.JPG This bowl is in great shape it has a good sign of wear in the bottom, but when I post what size it is then we know it just a rock.size 003.JPG

....and please post pictures of all sides.

I'd like to see the "it's just a rock" replies with clarification as to why you think that or at least only one non-commit post per thread.

And the back of the whatzit! Especially buttons, the shanks help date them.

All this is outlined in the forum rules. When I joined, I read them, accepted them and am following them now. Many members here get away with ignoring them. There's no reason why everyone should not follow the rules as everyone was prompted to accept them when they joined. I think everyone should give their location in their profile so everyone can see when you post --> your state at minimum <-- .

That is a good point. I make an effort to do this very thing.

I usually try try to finds links or pictures of objects similar or the same thing and try to explain why what they have isn't what they think it is. But, after being call stupid, not seeing it, don't know what I'm talking about, etc I kind of gave up trying anymore.

That is discouraging but you did try and that's all we can do--even if we fail miserably.

i understand but in truth after doing this a number of times it gets tedious when a flame war starts or the OP starts getting insulting...

People need to realize there is a chance they could be wrong. That goes for both new and old members.

99.9% of the time it is the new members that are wrong and so desperate to find authentic artifacts they will continue to argue a rock is an artifact even after multiple decades exoerienced members gave advise it is just a rock.

We want to help new hunters find actual artifacts, not encourage then to hunt geofacts.

I agree...If it’s possible. It’s easier to point out evidence. And, if you’re positive you have posted a NA Artifact, there should be a reason you feel that way as well.
Sometimes there’s no there—-there!!!

And then there are the merchant imports.

Haters Salt the fields. They Salt this forum too!

When we support an experienced member’s opinion, we aren’t required to give an explanation for our consensus.

Follow Monsterrack’s helpful guidelines for posting and see where it goes.

We want Newbies to find Artifacts!!!
We want to help to identify them!!

and might i add that a couple of guys like quito and charl often put A LOT off time and effort into their explanations only to get slammed with `your mother is a BLANK` sort of childish responses. why bother...say no and move on...let them think the Jesuits tossed secret stones into every stream in America, you are not gonna change the mind of anyone that subscribes to that nonsense anyway. Bigfoot on the other hand is real!

Do I really have to list the county I find stuff? I'd rather not......lol!

I don't think Compass points would give your spots away (N, S, E, W, NE, NW, EC, WC, SE, SW). Mine is EC AL--just 5 key strokes.

or OFD [out the front door] or OBD [out the........]:laughing7:
