A friend of mine has this point & was looking for more info on it. He is looking to sell it.

It was found on the Ohio River, in Ohio

Found about 25 years ago by someone other then my friend.

Any info would be helpful.

Oh, and when he got it out to show it to me & take pictures he dropped it and a sliver broke off the point about an inch long & about an 1/8 inch wide! :-\ I showed it in the last photo. Thanks for any info.

That break looks weird. Flint breaks at a certain angle (not 90 deg.) dependant on the angle of the strike. :icon_scratch:

If it is authentic, that break just lowered the price considerably.

If I drop a blade of that quality, please, someone shoot me. :-\

Hate to tell you more bad news (other than the break), that's a modern slabbed reproduction.

I agree with you & SRV. I didn't want to say it in my introduction & have it lean right away. But seeing it in person I really didn't see any patina to it. I didn't want to ask him either, rather wait & see what you guys thought & then I'll ask him.

Thanks you guys, you are fast!

If anyone else has an opinion, please still post.

Fake "Dovetails" are the most common modern made points at flea markets, auctions, etc. At least what I've seen anyway. I've seen hundreds of them here in North Dakota. I don't know if the ones I've seen are original "gray ghosts" but they usually are gray, lol. People actually pay big bucks for them, even though they know that they are modern. As a matter of fact, I've never seen one go for less than $150, that's pocket change for some collectors, though.

bogus piece, you should be able to look at that break and see a difference in the patina since it is a fresh break, but you probably wont see any difference.i would drop it on the floor again :headbang:

Thanks everyone for the fast replies. Just told the guy what ya'll said, he didn't seem real surprised.

I agree it should be dropped again.

Put it on Ebay, ppl buy fakes all day long on there... :laughing7:

Glad to see I wasn't the only one thinking it's a fake, no real patina on it, no difference between the new flint exposed and the old. Not sure how they got it to break that way either, if it was dropped the fine tip would have broke off.

i despise people who make repros and do not itch into the stone they are repros.....
