The brass tent rope adjuster was a "whatizit" for months until I recently id'd it from a photo gallery of dug relics. My question is were these used strictly by the military or were they just made during the civil war era and used by the general public as well? It was dug in a clearing about 20-30 yards from an 1800's cellarhole site...time to revisit it :D
The second item is made of thin brass, two inches long and was found at a primitive campsite in a state park where I camped over Labor Day Weekend. It came up near the fire ring along with some memorials and pop tabs so I didn't figure it to be anything but modern trash until i saw this picture of misc. civil war relics posted by t-net member Chopper. Can't imagine it's a scabbard tip but there seems to be a resemblance to the one I've circled that Chopper posted.
Thanks in advance for any input on either item. HH,Jerry

I know the tent rope slip (adjuster) has already been identified, but I thought I'd post this anyway:

PBK, thanks for posting that. Here in the Chattanooga area we had an 1890 era post that continuned up to WWII. And we tend to dig those fairly often. People have argued for years as to if those are civilwar era or not. I have some with patient dates that are post war but others claim the ones without are older. I think you just proved them wrong. Again thanks.

I think the patent date stays on for 10 or 15 years. The patented marked items would be the oldest.
